Currently, the banknotes we use it has the photo of father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi first appeared on Indian banknotes in 1969 when a series of designs were issued to commemorate the centenary of the leader's birth.
According to a report, RBI and the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL), which reports to the Ministry of Finance, have learned to sent two separate sets of watermark patterns Gandhi, Tagore, and Honorary Professor Kalam. from IIT-Delhi Dilip T. Shahani, who was asked to choose from both sets and submit them to the government for final consideration.
This is the first time the RBI has considered using images of famous personalities other than Mahatma Gandhi on banknotes.
Government sources said the final decision on choosing one or all three images would be made at the "highest level".
According to sources, the design of the three watermark patterns has official sanctions. However, no firm decision has been taken.
Sources also said that in 2017, one of the nine RBI internal committees, which was formed to recommend new security features for the new banknote series, presented its report in 2020, which offered Tagore's watermark numbers, along with Gandhi, and Kalam should also be included. developed into all banknotes.
Rabindranath Tagore is a Nobel laureate and is considered one of Bengal's greatest icons, while India's 11th President, APJ Abdul Kalam is also known as the Rocket Man.
